Hemingway's Faith - Oasis of Faith Covers

In Oasis: Conversion Stories of Hollywood Legends, Mary Claire Kendall writes about an “all-star twelve” from Hollywood’s “Golden Age of Film” including Alfred Hitchcock, Gary Cooper, Bob Hope, Mary Astor, John Wayne, Ann Sothern, Jane Wyman, Susan Hayward, Lana Turner, Betty Hutton, Ann Miller and Patricia Neal. Oasis is available in Spanish under the title También Dios pasa por Hollywood. Oasis of Faith: The Souls Behind the Billboard – Barrymore, Cagney, Tracy, Stewart, Guiness & Lemmon was published in the summer of 2024. Mary Claire's book about Hemingway, titled, Hemingway's Faith is being published by Rowman & Littlefield, an imprint of Bloomsbury Publishing, Christmas 2024.

In January 2019, St. Austin Review published an article by Mary Claire on Hemingway’s faith journey, titled Hemingway's Catholic Heart.” She read this article as a paper at the XVIII Biennial International Hemingway Conference in Paris in July 2018.

2018

On Sunday, March 18, Mary Claire did a book signing at St. Ann’s on Tenley Circle in Washington, D.C. See “Oasis in Washington at Tenley Circle.”

On Wednesday, March 28, Mary Claire did a book reading and signing at St. Francis of Assisi in Newburgh, New York. See: “Oasis in Newburgh—Redux on Spy Wednesday.”

On Saturday, April 21, Mary Claire did a book signing at Holy Redeemer Church in Kensington, MD. See: “Oasis in Kensington.”

On July 25th, Mary Claire spoke at The 18th Biennial International Hemingway Conference, in Paris, France about Hemingway’s faith journey.

On August 25th, Mary Claire did an Oasis book signing at the Grotto Bookstore at Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, MD and afterwards hosted a get together at her estate in Emmitsburg.

2017

— On Thursday, February 23, 2017, Mary Claire did a book reading and signing at Logos Bookstore in Manhattan. It was a lovely event, including remarks by Maria Cooper Janis, daughter of Hollywood icon Gary Cooper. See: “Oasis on York Street at Logos Bookstore.”

— On Wednesday, April 12, 2017, Mary Claire did a book reading and signing at St. Francis of Assisi in Newburgh, New York as a guest of the pastor, Fr. William Damroth. A wonderful event—great turnout, engaged audience and big sales. See: “Oasis in Newburgh.”

2015 & 2016

— On Monday, April 13th, 2015, Mary Claire spoke to the Moore Republican Women at Pinehurst Country Club, and answered questions. She also signed books both before and after the lunch. A great start to the book tour! (See video , 14:30-46:00)

— On Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015, she spoke at the Catholic Information Center in Washington, D.C. where she answered numerous questions and signed books. Wonderful occasion!

— On Wednesday, April 29th, 2015 Mary Claire spoke at St. Mel Parish Center in Woodland Hills, California, 20 miles northwest of Hollywood. (St. Mel’s Pastor Emeritus, Fr. Padraic Loftus, baptized Ann Miller in the waning moments of her life.) The event was well attended and included many questions from the audience. — On May 19th-22nd, 2015, Mary Claire visited Chicago and several stores, including two Barnes & Nobles, signing books and interacting with customers. On Thursday, May 21st, she had a terrific interview on “Chicago's Morning Answer,” 560 AM, Salem News Network, hosted by Dan Proft and Amy Jacobson. Her book is being carried at various Barnes & Nobles, including at DePaul Center (the Loop), State Street (Near North Side), Lincoln Park, Evanston, and Stokie, both Old Orchard and Village Crossing Stores; Pauline Books and Media, 172 North Michigan Avenue; and St. Peter in the Loop Book Store. — On June 4th-8th, 2015, Mary Claire traveled to Kentucky. Among other PR opportunities, she was featured on WCLU, the local radio station in Glasgow, and did a book signing at the Barnes & Noble in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. See:Oasis in Kentucky – by way of hospital.

— On June 26th-28th, 2015, Mary Claire traveled to Boston and Burlington, Massachusetts and had a memorable trip, including book signings at three Barnes & Nobles. See: “Oasis in Boston and Burlington.”

A memorable trip!

On August 20th and 21st, 2015, Mary Claire visited Manhattan, where she did two interviews at Sirius XM—“Busted Halo” with Fr. Dave Dwyer, and “The David Webb Show.” Mary Claire also signed copies at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square (Lower Manhattan) and the Barnes & Noble on 86th Street (Upper East Side). — On Wednesday, November 18th, 2015, Mary Claire was the featured guest at a private A Cocktails & Legends” party in Manhattan at which she spoke, answered questions and signed lots of books! A lovely event. See: Oasis on Park Avenue.

— On Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015, Mary Claire signed books at the University Club’s Annual Holiday Book Fair. A big success!  See: Oasis at the University Club.

— On Friday, December 11th, 2015 Mary Claire spoke at the Catholic Citizens of Illinois luncheon, at the Union League Club in Chicago. A tremendous event!  See: Oasis in Chicago at Christmastime.”  

— On Tuesday, March 29th, 2016, Mary Claire signed books at the Barnes & Noble in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. Two days earlier, on Easter Sunday, she stopped by the Barnes & Noble in Elmira, New York to sign a few books. Always good to get out and meet those who are reading and enjoying Oasis.
